Summary

In the first evaluation of the Wisconsin Surgical Coaching Program, 8 surgeons were trained as surgical coaches, were paired with 1-2 of 12 surgeon participants, and instructed to conduct 3 coaching sessions. From interviews of the surgeon participants and from their survey ratings of coach effectiveness, the authors conclude that surgical coaching is feasible, acceptable, and can be highly valuable for practicing surgeons’ continuous professional development.
