Surgeons spend years in rigorous training, then step into careers where structured feedback and professional development largely disappear. The expectation is that they will continue performing at the highest level indefinitely, without the support systems that got them there.

The Academy for Surgical Coaching was founded to change that. Built on more than a decade of research demonstrating that peer coaching measurably improves surgical performance, the Academy is an independent nonprofit organization that connects surgeons with trained coaches, provides evidence-based coaching programs, and partners with professional societies and health systems to embed coaching into surgical culture.

Our video-based coaching platform enables surgeons to connect across institutions, both nationally and internationally. We offer coaching for individual surgeons, surgical fellows, and departments, as well as executive coaching for surgeons in leadership roles, institutional coaching programs, and training for surgeons who want to become coaches themselves.

Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) CME Designation

Surgical coaching through the Academy has earned a Performance and Quality Improvement CME designation from the American College of Surgeons. This designation specifically recognizes activities that drive measurable improvement in clinical performance and patient outcomes. For surgeons, this means coaching fulfills CME requirements, counts toward ABS Continuous Certification, and is eligible for CME fund reimbursement at most institutions.

The Academy is led by a board of surgeons and researchers who have pioneered the field of surgical coaching and are committed to making it a standard part of surgical practice
