Summary

This meta-analysis aimed to understand if surgical coaching can be applied feasibly for continuing education and advancement of surgical skills in low-resource settings. From the 23 studies included, the authors conclude that surgical coaching has the potential to improve surgical education and quality in low- or middle-income countries as well as surgical capacity via increased specialist workforce density.
